Care Deeply and Pay Attention – Refuse to look away. Learn the stories of those affected. Recognize that when we defend the rights and humanity of others, we defend our own. Show your love of God by actually loving your neighbor.

Show Up and Bear Witness – Attend immigration hearings, vigils, and detention center visits. Presence communicates that those detained are not forgotten and that the community is watching. TELL THE STORY!

Provide Pastoral and Community Care – Volunteer to accompany families to hearings, visit detainees, offer pastoral counseling, and connect them to resources for housing, food, and legal support.

Advocate for Policy Change – Contact representatives (local, state, and federal) and urge them to investigate ICE practices, push for humane alternatives to detention, and hold agencies accountable for racial disparities.

Support Legal and Advocacy Networks – Contribute time, funds, or space to immigration legal aid organizations, sanctuary movements, and advocacy groups defending immigrants’ rights every day.

Educate and Inform Your Community – Host forums, sermons, and study groups in churches and community centers to share the truth about immigration enforcement. Counter lies and fearmongering with facts and stories of dignity.

Defend Community and Private Spaces – Affirm schools, churches, nonprofits, and community centers as “sensitive locations” where enforcement should not occur; Remind families of their legal rights in private spaces, agents cannot lawfully enter a home without a judicial warrant; Document and report any violations, and join safe rapid-response networks to protect vulnerable neighbors.

Pray, Proclaim, and Persist – Lift up prayers publicly, preach about justice, and remind the community that defending the rights of immigrants is defending democracy itself. When we protect the vulnerable, we preserve freedom for all.
